Aimed at helping researchers and research students to learn about spatial analysis and master the application of Spatial Analysis in Macroecology (SAM) software, XTBG organized a workshop during November 24-28. Mr. Thiago Rangel, a doctoral student of the University of Connecticut, was invited as the instructor.

The 5-day Workshop on Spatial Analysis in Macroecology was undergoing in an interactive atmosphere, bringing together 30 trainees from XTBG, KIB, KIZ and other institutions. The Workshop covered 3 full days of lectures including practical application of the Spatial Analysis in Macroecology (SAM) software. The participants got a general understanding about the computational tool, had practical spatial analysis, and held discussions around different techniques and applications developed during the workshop.

On November 28, the Workshop completed successfully.

Mr. Thiago Fernando L.V.B. Rangel is interested in statistical and computational methods applied to macroecology and evolutionary biology. Current projects involve the development and implementation of spatial stimulation models to understand the role of evolutionary- and climate-based factors they drive latitudinal gradients in species richness and macroecological patterns. He is also using spatially explicit Individual-Based models to study how spatial pattern in micro-evolutionary processed drive macroecological patterns.
