A popular science book titled Amazing Biodiversity has been recently published by Southern Daily Press. The book is co-edited by Liu Guangyu of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and Hues Media. The new book features 50 representative animal and plant species from various ecological regions across China. These include iconic and fascinating organisms such as the Asian elephants of southern Yunnan, the Tibetan antelopes of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, "living fossil" species like the ginkgo and metasequoia trees, the critically endangered Putuo hornbeam, the plateau aquatic plant Ottelia acuminata, and the enchanting orchid mantis from tropical rainforests. Through exquisitely hand-drawn illustrations and anime-style designs, the book systematically introduces the origins, evolutionary processes, behavioral habits, and intriguing scientific stories behind these species, highlighting China’s remarkable achievements in biodiversity conservation. “The new book aims to inspire curiosity and appreciation for China’s rare species among children, teenagers, and the general public through visual and narrative storytelling. It seeks to raise ecological awareness and deepen understanding of the importance of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature,” said Liu Guangyu of XTBG.
