XTBG has hosted bird watching festivals over the past two years. As more and more bird watching lovers come to this place, XTBG is going to host the 3rd Bird Watching Festival on January 1-2, 2013. All bird lovers are welcomed to participate.

The lush trees make Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) an ideal location for birds to nest and lay their eggs. According to observation and statistics by bird lovers, more than 200 bird species are found in the garden. XTBG is also a right place for bird watching expeditions.

The theme of the Bird Watching Festival is “A Cage is No Home”. 15 bird or environment protection organizations from home and abroad are invited to show. During the festival, a series of activities will be held. Guided tours, latest bird videos, bird photos and paintings, night-seeing, etc are available.

Some equipment appropriate for bird watching like binoculars, camera with a fast shutter speed may be bought at the exhibition booths.

We have some guides with extensive experience and local knowledge. In Xishuangbanna, you can observe some of the world’s most rare species of birds, explore the largest tropical botanical garden in China as well as experience the local culture.

Here are a few examples of the rare bird species: Chrysococcyx xanthorhynchus, Treron pompadora, Anthreptes malacensis Scopoli, Tyto Alba, Harpactes oreskios, Sturnus pagodarum. Come and enjoy them.
