To mark the 2025 International Day for Biodiversity (IBD) on May 22, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) organized a special event titled “ Director and experts guide you through the garden”. The activity aimed to highlight the critical role of biodiversity conservation and align with the theme of IBD 2025 “Harmony with nature and sustainable development”.

XTBG director Prof. Xing Yaowu, together with other researchers and graduate students, guided the visitors through the garden while showcasing the rich biodiversity and the ecological, economic, and cultural value of tropical biodiversity. They introduced the research, conservation efforts, and public education initiatives of XTBG.

The event also leveraged digital outreach, with a live broadcast on XTBG’s WeChat video channel attracting 2,125 online viewers.

First launched in 2009, “Director and experts guide you through the garden” has become a flagship outreach program for XTBG. By merging scientific expertise with immersive storytelling, it raises public awareness of biodiversity protection and underscores the garden’s societal impact.

"This year’s theme urges human to forge a harmonious and sustainable path with nature," said Dr. Xing. "Through this event, we hope to share not only the wonders of biodiversity but also the untold stories of conservationists working behind the landscapes."
