Established in 1999, the Commemorative Plant Garden occupies an area of 3.8 ha. It is the place where some national leaders and world wide famous people of China as well as foreign countries cultivated memorial trees when they visit XTBG.

For example, former Chinese President Jiang Ze-Min planted a red bean tree (Adenanthera pavonina), former Chinese Premier Li Peng planted an ironwood tree (Mesua ferrea). In July 2005, China Premier Wen Jia-Bao inspected XTBG and planted a Xishuangbanna native dipterocarp tree, Vatica xishuangbannaensis. There are also a number of trees planted by international distinguished guests. For example,Prince Philip of Britain, Chairman of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), planted a towering tree (Shorea wangtianshuea) in 1984.

Other sightworthy places in this area include the XTBG History Museum, a statue named “exploration in the forest”, reflecting the field work of Prof. Cai Xitao, the founder of XTBG, and a Dracaena tree which bright red resins are resources for the famous traditional Chinese medicine: Dragon’s Blood that is reputed to be effective on invigorating blood circulation and treating many blood diseases.

There are some other rare plants in this garden, such as the poison tree – upas (Antiaris toxicaria), traveler's palm (Ravenala madagascariensis), and the hundreds-age cycads in Xishuangbanna, etc.
