Tropical agroforestry systems  are artificial plant communities based on ecological principles of species coexistence in tropical rainforest community. They have multi-species and multi-vertical structure with the management of forestry technologies. Agroforestry system has the characters of rich species diversity, high productivity, and ecological-economic-social benefits.  Current community models are developed from previous experimental bases built in 1960s, expands to 6.7 ha with more than ten different artificial community models, including rubber, tea, coffee, cocoa, and other economic crops. The rubber-tea community is the most well-known system, which has been popularized to the rubber plantation areas of Hainan and Yunnan Provinces
