Nelumbo nucifera ‘Xitao Feixue’ , a new cultivar of lotus, has been donated to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) by Zhejiang Humanities Landscape Co. Ltd on November 13. Prof. Hu Huabin, deputy director of XTBG, received the gift from Mr. Chen Yuchu.
The cultivar was internationally registered in March 2014 and the International registration Certificate was issued by Dr. Daike Tian, International Nelumbo Registrar, to Zhejiang Humanities Landscape Co. Ltd. The first part of cultivar name ‘Xitao Feixue’ is from the name of Prof. Xitao Cai (1911-1981) in honor of his great contributions to botanical research in China.
Nelumbo nucifera ‘Xitao Feixue’ is a productive bloomer with dancing-like shape flowers and can bloom for a long time extending to mid-November.
