A batch of 150 seedlings of the critically endangered fern Didymochlaena sinuosa (commonly known as the Wing-sorus Fern) have been successfully reintroduced to their native habitat within the Bulong Provincial Nature Reserve in Xishuangbanna in August.

This successful "homecoming" results from a dedicated two-year collaboration between the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Bulong Provincial Nature Reserve Management Bureau.

The journey began in 2023 when joint scientific teams collected spores from wild Didymochlaena sinuosa plants within the Bulong Reserve. These precious spores were then nurtured through meticulous propagation trials and careful cultivation at XTBG. Overcoming challenges, researchers achieved consistent germination and growth, resulting in the robust seedlings reintroduced today.
