The Advanced Workshop in Ecology and Conservation came to a successful end on October 21. With 9 researchers of XTBG as teachers, 59 trainees from 8 countries listened to lectures, held discussions, and made field investigations. The workshop focused on climate change, biodiversity monitoring, and biodiversity conservation.
The Advanced Workshop in Ecology and Conservation covered the following topics: The ecology and biogeography of tropical East Asia and biodiversity crisis in the region; History of conservation ecology and modern conservation methods; Botanical garden’s role in plant biodiversity conservation; Invasive plant problem in biodiversity conservation; Long-term monitoring research; Species distribution modeling and its application in conservation ecology (main topic); Camare trap technique in conservation; Molecular tools in conservation; Corridor technique in conservation; Wild population rebuilding: orchid as an example.
The workshop was funded by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The workshop was meaningful to disseminate knowledge of ecology and conservation biology. It provided a platform for young researchers to communicate and cooperate, cultivated talents, and increased China’s influence in tropical biological studies and ecological conservation.
