Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research InstituteChinese Academy of Sciences (CAS-SEABRI), is an international scientific research and education institute, affiliated directly to CAS and managed by Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical GardenXTBG.

Since its establishment in August 2015, under the guidance and support of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and through the unremitting efforts, CAS-SEABRI has achieved significant progress. Currently, more than 1,600 square meters of office buildings, laboratories and 12 mobile apartments in Myanmar center have been put into use. The research team has steadily expanded, with four core research teams and 28 international cooperative projects. The projects cover a wide geographic range including Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.

By the end of 2016, CAS-SEABRI published nearly 30 papers in SCI journals. Over 150 new species have been discovered and described, which include amphibians, reptiles, fish, arthropods, and plants in different families such as Orchidaceae, Begoniaceae, Lauraceae, Araceae, etc.

CAS-SEABRI has recruited more than 20 graduate students from Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and other Southeast Asian countries, and trained nearly 200 technical staffs from this region.

The functions of CAS-SEABRI website are to strengthen the publicity, promote exchanges between Southeast Asian scholars, promote sharing of scientific information and expand the impact of CAS-SEABRI.
