Researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), together with their collaborators, conducted joint field geological and paleobotanical investigations in Laos from January 9-20. The joint investigation was aimed to provide key theoretical support for the protection of biodiversity and regional sustainable development. The joint team conducted systematic field surveys of Cenozoic basins in different regions of Laos, collecting a wealth of samples, including more than 200 large plant fossil specimens and more than 1400 pollen samples. They provided detailed descriptions and records of the stratigraphic features of each basin. The researchers also visited Zhongliang Mining Potassium Salt Co., Ltd. to discuss issues related to the geological environment, biodiversity evolution, and regional industrial development integration in Laos.
