XTBG and BNU co-sponsor Workshop on Plant Reproductive Biology

The International Workshop on Plant Reproductive Biology, co-sponsored by XTBG and the College of Life Sciences of Beijing Normal University, was held in Beijing and Yunnan from May 2 to 20. After that, UT-XTBG-BNU joint Plant-Insect Interaction Filed Course was carried out in XTBG.

Many famous professors were invited to the workshop and field course, including Dr. Spencer C.H.Barrett, an evolutionary biologist and Canada Research Chair at the Department of Botany, University of Toronto, Dr. Lawrence Harder, professor at the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Calgary, Dr. Christopher Eckert, professor for research on the genetics, evolution and management of clonal plants, at the Department of Biology, Queen’s University, and Dr. John Pannell, University lecturer in plant Sciences at Oxford University and who specializes in evolution and ecology.

 

  When in Beijing, over 50 people form relevant research institutes and universities took part in the workshop and field study. The four professors delivered a series of lectures according to their own expertise, which covered the new advances and their research theories and means.

 

12 students from University of Toronto, 6 from Beijing Normal University and 6 from XTBG participated in the UT-XTBG-BNU joint Plant-Insect Interaction filed course held in XTBG. During their study in XTBG, Dr. Spencer Barrett and Dr. Christopher Darling of Royal Ontario Museum delivered 7 lectures.

 

 Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, met and held talks with the four experts and participating students. He also gave an overview of XTBG to the guests.

 

The workshop and field course complete today on June 2, 2006.
