With a title of “Science Education and Building an Innovation-oriented Country”, Ms. Wei Yu, academician of the CAE and vice chairwoman of CAST, delivered a lecture in Yunnan University, Kunming on September 12. The lecture was a part of the “Science and China” Program of Itineracy Lectures given by CAS and CAE members and experts.
With deep analyses on the status quo of education in China, Ms. Wei Yu pointed out that basic education plays an essential role in building an innovation-oriented country.
The “Science and China” Program of Itineracy Lectures given by CAS and CAE members and experts were initiated in 2002. The lecture series is jointly sponsored by six government departments and organizations including the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), China Association for Science & Technology (CAST), Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST), Ministry of Education (MOE), and Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee. Over the past four years, the event has summoned and organized senior scientists to give high-profile lectures.
Its Kunming itineracy lecture was held with assistance from local governments and relevant organizations, including CAS Kunming Branch. Yunnan provincial government attached much importance to the event. Mr. Gao Feng, deputy governor of Yunnan Province, presided over the lecture activity.
