A group of eleven staff members and students of XTBG visited Krau Wildlife Reserve, Pahang, Malaysia on April 21, 2008. Attendees included XTBG director Professor Chen Jin, Professor Charles Cannon, Professor Zhu Hua and Associate Professor Ferry Slik. The attendees were in Malaysia for the Asia-Pacific chapter meeting of the Association of Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATBC). The Krau Wildlife Reserve has a long history of research, is the location of ongoing long-term ecological studies and is a center for training and education.
Guided by Mr. Zamiza “Zam” Zainal from the Wildlife Department, the group explored the lowland rainforest, visited the educational museum at the Seladang (Malayan Gaur) sanctuary and an Orang Asli (native people of the peninsular Malaysia) village. Krau Wildlife Reserve is approximately a 2 hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. The reserve is over 600 square kilometers in area. The group from XTBG thoroughly enjoyed the trip and a great thanks is in order for hospitality shown by the Wildlife Department of Malaysia! |
