During May 20-21, an expert panel sent by the Advisory and Review Panel of the CAS S & T Innovation Bases came to XTBG to have on-spot investigation. The expert panel consisted of scientists and management experts from governmental departments, S& T institutions, including President Xu Zhihong of Peking University, former Vice Minister of Ministry of Science & Technology, CAS Vice President Li Jiayang, etc.

Dr. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, made a work report entitled “Establishing a breeding base for national strategic tropical plant resources” to the experts. He reported work advances in and development on the “one plus ten” innovation bases in the third phase of the Knowledge Innovation Program (KIP), ranging from scientific research, species conservation to gardening and infrastructure construction.

After listening to a work report, the panel experts had on-spot field investigation within the Garden. In the company of Dr. Chen Jin, Dr. Cao Min and other XTBG administrators, they visited such living collection as the Tropical Herbs Garden, Tropical Brilliant Flowers Garden, Palm Garden, etc. and the Tropical Rainforest Ethnic Culture Museum. They also made a special tour to the cultivation and experiment base for physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) trees.

President Zhang Zhuangxin of CAS Kunming Branch and some other officials accompanied the expert panel to XTBG.
