The escalating economic growth and impacts of human activities have resulted in the tremendous changes of natural ecosystems. It has become an important mission for long-term ecological studies to understand and reveal the response mechanisms of ecosystems to global change at multiple scales. Ecological modeling experiment based on artificial control seems to be an effective option.

XTBG has recently set up an experiment base, within the Garden, for tropical vegetation restoration models and artificial control.

The studies on long-term vegetation restoration and artificial control are to be focused on the following domains:

1.      The optimal models of agro-forestry ecosystem:

By imitating natural plant community structures and selecting species which are adapted to different environments, XTBG sets up multiple optimal models of agro-forestry ecosystems through species enrichment experiment. Meanwhile, long-term monitoring will be conducted on ecological parameters of different models, in order to identify their sustainability.

2.      Vegetation restoration experiment:

XTBG sets up different model plots on the basis of existing secondary vegetation. To have tropical vegetation restoration experiments by employing artificial breeding, soil seed bank techniques, structure improvement of degraded forests, etc.

3.      Experiment of artificial control:

Set up artificial experiment plots along different environmental factors (temperature, water, nutrients, species enrichment / clearance, fire, etc.) .To study the functions of ecosystems and ecosystem response to environment change impacts.
