Teak (Tectona grandis Linn.f.) is a hardwood species of worldwide reputation. It occurs naturally in India, Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. Prof. Cai Xitao, the late founder of XTBG, introduced Tectona grandis Linn.f. to the Garden in 1964.

Teak is mostly seed propagated. The problems in teak germination are multifarious. Through repeated experiment, XTBG has mastered the technique for teak propagation in vitro. About 50,000 teak seedlings have been propagated after callus induction, proliferation culture, rooting culture, and exercising seedlings in nursery.

Teak (Tectona grandis Linn.f.) is in the family of Verbenaceae. It is commercially valued for its wood quality in the world due to the presence of fine grains, its strength, durability, and resistance to insects. It is also used in construction, plywood and furniture industries.
