In order to boost studies on energy plants, XTBG has recently formed a research team. The research team consists of several research groups, including Prof. Xu Zengfu, Prof. Fang Zhen, Prof. Liu Aizhong, and Assoc. Prof. Yang Qing, etc. who have been engaged in molecular breeding, engineering, and screening of energy plants. Supported by XTBG, the team is headed by Prof. Dr. Xu Zengfu.

At the inauguration meeting on April 17, deputy director Peng Daiping introduced the general planning of research and development of energy plants at XTBG and hoped that team work would make it a great success.

The team emphasizes on developing molecular breeding technology for high yield and adversity resistance (drought, salt, arid land, etc.) of energy plants, especially Jatropha curcas. The inauguration of the research team provides opportunities for researchers to collaborate and optimize the use of laboratory instruments, while at the same time provide useful data for the research and development of energy plants for biodiesel fuels.
