National Science &Technology Week –XTBG public education opens

On May 16, the opening ceremony of National Science and Technology Week –XTBG Science Popularization was launched at the headquarters, which marks the first activity of the CAS Public Science Day, National Science and Technology Week (May 16-22) and International Biodiversity Day (May 22).

 

About 100 pupils and students from local schools were involved in the opening ceremony.  In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Yin Shouhua, assistant director of XTBG, said that “as National-level Education Base for Science, XTBG shoulders the responsibility of getting the public especially teenagers involved in science, technology and innovation, and disseminating knowledge of biodiversity conservation.”

 

 On the first day of the S&T week, the biological characteristics of Tetrameles nudiflora were introduced to the participants. The teenagers were also encouraged to get prepared for the reintroduction of this rare plant species through seed germination and breeding.

 

 

Such interesting games as plant hunting, GPS positioning and visiting the living collections were also organized.

The National Science & Technology Week, China's annual nationwide science publicity event, takes place in the third week of every May.

 

 

 Coming up! A series of activities with different themes and various forms is arranged.
