The closing ceremony of “The 5th International Symposium on the Family of Zingiberaceae", hosted by the co-director of the academic committee John Kress, was performed on the afternoon of July 9, 2009.

The closing ceremony proceedings began with the competition for the right to host next symposium. University of Calicut (India), University of Chittagong (Bangladesh) and Laiwu Municipal Academy of Agricultural Sciences (Shandong, China) participated the competition. University of Calicut won the right, and it will host the 6th International Symposium on the Family of Zingiberaceae in 2012.

The second item of closing ceremony was the appraisal of research posters. Two posters of Eliska Zaveska from Czech and YenYen Sam from Malaysia won the prize of outstanding posters, which stood out above other 32 posters. The director of XTBG and co-director of the academic committee Dr. Chen Jin awarded the winning authors.

The closing ceremony proceedings ended with the concluding speech of Dr. Li Qingjun, the director of organizing committee. He expressed his gratitude to all the delegates and their wonderful presentations and animated discussion.
