The 2nd Symposium on Tropical Forest Ecology, organized by the CAS Key Laboratory of Tropical Forest Ecology of XTBG, was held during September 13-18 in Nanning, capital city of Guangxi Province. The symposium brought together more than 200 scientific personnel engaged in tropical forest ecology studies.

Prof. Chen Jin and Prof. Cao Min of XTBG, and Prof. Ou Xiaokun of Yunnan University were invited as keynote speakers.

The symposium was themed with “species patterns and ecosystem processes of tropical forests”. 26 lectures ranging landscape ecology to molecular biology and conservation biology, etc. were delivered.

The participants discussed the status quo and conflict between scocial development and ecological environmental protection in tropical areas of China.

During the sidelines, XTBG leaders held talks with representatives of Guangxi University and Hainan University on cooperation in academic exchanges and talents training.

Afterwards, the participants made field tours to Nonggang National Nature Reserve, Damingshan National Nature Reserve, and Weizhou Island of Guangxi.
