Academician Zhu Zuoyan talks about development of scientific research at XTBG

Prof. Zhu Zuoyan, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was invited to deliver a speech entitled “Analyze the development of China’s scientific research – starting from the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2012” at XTBG on December 2.

Comparing the work of the Nobel laureates in physiology or medicine in 2012 with Chinese late biologist Tong Dizhou, Prof. Zhu Zuoyan discussed and analyzed the current situation of scientific research in China, especially over the past 30 years.

In his speech, Prof. Zhu expressed his respect to the late botanist Cai Xitao and recognized Prof. Cai’s contribution to introduction and plantation of rubber in Xishuangbanna.

Prof. Zhu Zuoyan works at Institute of Hydrobiology and serves as President of China Association for International Science and Technology Cooperation. Since 2008, he has been the chief editor of Science in China and Chinese Science Bulletin.

Prof. Zhu’s major research interests are in the fields of genetics and developmental biology and biotechnology. He has accomplished several research achievements with pioneering significance and laid theoretic foundation for fish genetic breeding. He has published more than 100 papers, three of which have been regarded as classic works in the field of transgenic fish. Prof. Zhu has been awarded for six times the scientific achievement awards at both national and ministry level.
