During the Spring Festival (or Chinese Lunar New Year) which fell on Feb 10 this year, many people celebrated it by going sightseeing in the week-long holiday. Tourist attractions across China have been jam packed with visitors. Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) was no exception and is a hot destination for tourists who are interested in tropical rainforest and plant diversity. According to statistics, more than 66,700 people thronged into XTBG in the golden week. The beautiful scenery, photo exhibition, and popular science activities made their journey more unforgettable.

Quiz questions on ecological photo exhibition showing diverse plants and insects in XTBG attracted a large number of visitors to participate. Teaching tourists to press flower is another popular science activity, which is loved by adolescents. Many visitors also experienced lifting up balsa wood (the lightest wood in the world), imaging oneself to be ‘a person of extraordinary strength’.

Volunteer tour guides composed of graduate students and young staff members also impressed many visitors.

With a large expanse of lush green vegetation, XTBG is a valuable botanical study base and a retreat from bustle and hustle.
