In the year of 2012, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) developed robustly. XTBG received 38.63million RMB in research funds from 73 new projects, got 139 papers published in internationally peer-reviewed journals, proposed to set up Chinese Union of Botanical Gardens (CUBG), broadened cooperation ties with foreign institutions, inaugurated the construction of Jingdong Subtropical Botanical Garden, etc.

The year of 2012 was key for the implementation of “Innovation 2020(implementing innovation during the period from the present to 2020)” and “one orientation, three key breakthroughs, five key research directions” strategy (1-3-5 project for short). All research work was carried out accordingly with the two planning.

Big progress has also been made in public education and landscape optimization. The Green Stone Forest opened to the public. The construction of Vine Garden was completed.

In 2012, XTBG scientist published their research entitled “The maximum height of grasses is determined by roots” in Ecology Letters – the top one academic journal in ecology.
