2014 Annual Conference for Chinese Botanic Gardens held in Shanghai

2014 Annual Conference for Chinese Botanic Gardens was held in Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden from October 22-26, with 350 representatives from over 120 botanical gardens or arboreta and international organizations around the world. The theme was “Social responsibilities of botanical gardens”.

The conference was composed of 12 plenary presentations and five symposia on plant resources exploitation and sustainable utilization; new technology of ex situ conservation of rare and endangered plants; public education and science popularization; horticulture technique and beautiful life in cities, challenges and opportunities for botanical gardens. Posters and book exhibitions were also available.

A training course named “Chinese biodiversity conservation and green development fund” was held during the sessions of the conference. Professors from Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), Minzu University of China, and botanical gardens were invited as lecturers.

Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG and chairman of CUBG, delivered an opening speech and made a plenary presentation. XTBG former director Prof. Xu Zaifu and some other young researchers were also present at the conference.

Annual Conference 2015 of Chinese Botanic Gardens is to be held in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical garden.

The 2014 Annual Conference for Chinese Botanic Gardens was co-organized by Chinese Association of Botanic Gardens of Botanical Society of China, Chinese Union of Botanical Gardens (CUBG), Chinese Association of Parks, Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), CAS Botanical Gardens Committee, International Association of Botanical Gardens (IABG), East Asia Botanical Garden Network (EABGN), etc.
