Prof. Xu Zhihong, CAS academician and former president of Peking University, paid another inspection tour to XTBG on January 14-16. His tour is to understand the progress of preparation work for CAS Biodiversity Research Center in Myanmar and development of the Chinese Union of Botanic Gardens (CUBG).   Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, reported the progress on the preparation of CAS Biodiversity Research Center in Myanmar. Assistant director Hu Huabin made work report on CUBG.

Academician Xu Zhihong is chairman of Academic Committee of CAS Biodiversity Research Center in Myanmar and director of CUBG Consultation Committee. He gave positive comments. He especially showed recognition to the important roles of CUBG in public education, environmental protection awareness, and biodiversity conservation.

Academician Xu Zhihong also talked with XTBG deputy directors Cao Min, Li Qingjun, Zhou Zhekun and other personnel.

  The inspection tour was accompanied by Prof. Li Dezhu of CAS Kunming Branch and Prof. Wang Ding, secretary-general of the Chinese National Committee for the UNESCO program Man and the Biosphere (MAB).

Prof.  Xu Zhihong is the 30th President of Peking University from 1999 to 2008. In 1992, he was named the Vice-President of CAS. Professor Xu is an academician of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and of the CAS.  At present, Prof.Xu is professor at the College of Life Sciences at Peking University and at SIPP, President of International Association of Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology, Chairman of the Chinese National Committee of Man and of Biosphere, UNESCO, and Chairman of the Chinese Society of Plant Physiology.
