Chinese Union of Botanic Gardens (CUBG) has become fast-growing organization since its launch in 2013. To have a better development, a consultation meeting was held in Xihshuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on November 11. The meeting was aimed to gather experience and advice from veteran botanist from China and UK to guide development.
The expert commission was composed of He Shanan, Xu Zaifu, Zhang Zuoshuang, Huang Hongwen, Vernon Heywood, and Stephen Blackmore, with Prof. Vernon Heywood as chairman.
The experts listened to a Progress Report on the Development of CUBG by Prof. Chen Jin, CUBG chairman and XTBG director. Afterwards, they asked in details about management, project implementation, and future planning of CUBG. They then put forward advice on future development goals and trends.
The experts gave full recognition to the role of CUBG played in promoting development of Chinese botanical gardens. They especially recognized the phased achievement in plant conservation, construction of standard systems, popular science activities, and capacity building. A written consultation report will be handed to CUBG later.
CUBG vice chairmen, secretary general, and some related officials of CAS and State Forestry Administration of China attended the consultation meeting. Prof. YAN Qing, director general of CAS Bureau of Science & Technology for Development, delivered a welcome speech.
