Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) is hosting a week-long Science Festival, an event to showcase the science undertaken by the young research fellows and graduate studetns from May 21-27. It is a lively festival of science featuring sessions of talks, poster presentations, science-fair-style installations, and live demonstrations.
The Science Festival is themed with “Beyond Papers”. It encourages young research fellows and graduate students to show their work, projects, and activities from across the science.
61 conference style poster presentations showcasing progress in plant science, ecological studies, and conservation study are made. 32 posters about research work undertaken by Xishuangbanna Station for Tropical Rainforest Ecosystem Studies are also on show at the Science Festival.
At the opening ceremony on May 21, the presenters are well prepared to shortly introduce their research and ready to answer lots of questions. Plant and animal specimens, three-dimensional printing, photo taking of the infrared thermal camera, model of environmental-friendly rubber plantations, etc attracted visitors.
At the Science Festival, the young research fellows and students get together to interact and exchange ideas that will enhance their knowledge of various science applications.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr. Wang Ximin. Principal Investigator of Biodiversity Research Group was invited as keynoter speaker. Graduate student Liu Zhilong of XTBG and middle school student Wang Qingling of Menglun shared their feelings about the festival.
