Researchers from Paleoecology Laboratory of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) completed their two-week field work in southern Tibet from May 28 to June 13. They conducted expeditions to Shihatse (officially known as Xigazê) of Tibet, investigated fossil flora in the area and collected more than 400 fossil plant specimens and 50 pollen samples. Luckily, they found fossil of palm plants.
The plant fossil specimens they collected will be used to investigate the evolution of plants and the relationships between fossils, modern plants, and current plant species, etc. Details about the anatomy, morphology, and reproductive biology of some plants may also be studied.
