The 7th International Canopy Conference was held in University of Roehampton, UK during August 21-26. It brought together researchers from a wide range of disciplines, united by the environment in which they gather data to answer key biological questions. Researchers from 16 countries and regions participated in the conference and communicated on latest research progress in canopy forest sciences. Prof. LIU Wenyao and his team members and Dr. Akihiro Nakamura of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) presented their research work at the meeting. The themes of the conference were “experimental approaches to understanding canopy organisms and processes”; “beta diversity in canopy communities”; “biosphere-atmosphere interactions”; and “research across the globe”. XTBG researchers presented their research work as following: LIU Wenyao Epiphytic bryophyte diversity and distribution patterns along three altitudinal gradients in Yunnan, SW China; SONG Liang Organic nitrogen contributing to N economy of epiphytic bryophytes; LU Huazheng Effects of aging and fragmentation on performance of clonal epiphytes; WU Yi Diversity and phytogeography of vascular epiphytes of Asian biodiversity hotspots; Akihiro Nakamura Recent development of canopy science and crane network in China. Dr. Akihiro Nakamura also chaired the symposium “Cranes, new technologies and experimental manipulation”. In addition, the 8th International Canopy Conference is possibly to be held at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden. XTBG researchers present their research Forest canopy crane at 20-ha plot of Xishuangbanna
