CAS Vice President Liu Weiping Visits XTBG

Mr. Liu Weiping, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and the Vice President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), paid an inspection tour to Xishaungbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) from September 9-10.

Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG, introduced the overview of the garden from the aspects of the historical development, team building and structure, the implementation of the “One-Three-Five” development plan and other facilities that support the development of the garden. Mr. Li Hongwei, CPC secretary of XTBG, reported work on party building.

 CAS vice president Liu Weiping listened to the introduction carefully an had an in-depth communication with XTBG researchers and principals on issues regarding the strategic development goals, S&T achievements, and talent cultivation, etc.

Mr. Liu Weiping urged all faculty and staff to work cohesively to achieve the goal of building XTBG into a first-class botanical garden in the world. He also encouraged XTBG to more actively serve national strategic development. Party building should be enhanced as well.

Afterwards, the visiting vice president and his companions inspected the central laboratory, key laboratory of tropical plant resources and sustainable use, key laboratory of tropical forest ecology, living collections, cultivation base of Inca Peanut (Plukenetia volubilis) and physic nut tree (Jatropha curcasL.). They also toured the karst landscape of green stone forest.

Liu Weiping’s inspection tour to XTBG is part of his visit to Kunming Branch and its institutes from September 7-10.
