The Second Luosuo River Science Education Forum opened at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on July 13. With the theme of “Create and share – science education in cross-over innovation”, the forum brought together over 100 representatives nationwide. The representatives gathered to discuss new trend of science education in cross-over innovation.
Prof. Zhou Dejin, director general of the Bureau of Science Communication of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), delivered an opening speech. He said that Luosuo River Science Education Forum is expected to be a platform for promoting popularization of top-end research resources and “science and China” education plan.
Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG and chairman of Chinese Union of Botanic Gardens (CUBG), pointed out the characteristics of science education and environmental education. He said that science education is a cross-border work and needs multilateral participation, it is challenging and never-ending. Moreover, science education needs theoretical guidance and active practice.
Prof. Ji shaocheng from Montreal University was invited as a keynote speaker. He talked about “How to conduct science education”, with four case studies.
Prof. Zhao Yandong, director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Society, Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development (CASTED, was another keynote speaker. He talked about the “Willing of youth to have science careers and the influence factors”.
Four keynote plenary speeches and 18 oral presentations provided platform for participants to discuss science education.
The topics of the forum include:
1). Integrated development of formal and informal education;
2). Conservation education and civil science;
3). Art and environmental education;
4). Science communication under the trend of new media.
