The 24th session of conference on the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) was held in Beijing on December 13-15. Director Sun Honglie of CERN Scientific Commission, some CAS members concerning CERN, officials, as well as delegates from fellow field stations attended the meeting. The conference was attended by over 200 scientists, including Prof. Zhang Jiaolin and Prof. Fan Zexin of XTBG.

The meeting summed up work progress of CERN in 2016, and discussed problems in the network. The participants also discussed the compilation and publish of the series books of Chinese ecosystem processes and changes, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of CERN in 2018.

Academician Zhang Yaping, vice president of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), emphasized the importance of long-term monitoring and research of field stations. He urged the field stations to contribute more to ecological civilization.

10 young scientists were honored with “Excellent Paper Award for Young Scientists”. Dr. Cao Lin of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) was one of the 10 excellent paper award winners, with his paper entitled Differential foraging preferences on seed size by rodents result in higher dispersal success of medium-sized seeds”. CAS academician Sun Honglie conferred the award.
