160 representatives from multiple organizations and professions gathered together at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) to network and discuss issues within science education from July 23-24.

With “biodiversity conservation education” as its theme, the 4th Luosuo River Forum on Science Education aimed to explore ways of environmental science education.

It focused on the topics including citizen science and biodiversity conservation, educational excursions and conservation education, conservation education from the perspective of new media, social functions of botanical gardens under the new situation, etc.

5 plenary speeches, 18 thematic presentations, and 10 communication presentations will help the participants better understand biodiversity science education in the new era.

“Since its inception in 2016, the Luosuo River Forum on Science Education facilitates links between civil society groups, public sector organizations, and the scientific community working on science education”, said Prof. Chen Jin, director of XTBG and executive vice chairman of Chinese Union of Botanical Gardens (CUBG).

In his plenary speech, Prof. Guo Chuanjie from Chinese University of Science & Technology (USTC) explained the difference and links between nature education and science education. He encouraged coherent development of nature and science education.

The Forum also brought participants from NGOs, research institutions, and CCTV.

The two-day meeting is expected to provide valuable information for the preparing work of the 15th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15) in 2020 in Kunming.
