Annual work conference 2020 of the botanical gardens work committee of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was held in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on December 10-11. An academic forum was concurrently held. Prof. Chen Jin, Prof. Yang Yongping, together with directors or vice directors of other 15 CAS botanical gardens, attended the meeting.  

Directors of the 15 member gardens respectively made work summary over the past year.  

The 60 participants discussed challenges facing the development of Chinese botanical gardens, and how to play a more important role in CAS plan of strategic biological resources. They also put forward suggestions for the development planning of Yili Botanic Garden. 

23 researchers from 15 botanical gardens presented their research progress at the academic forum, concerning the topics of conservation biology, plant ecology, molecular biology, and plant resources and utilization.  

Prof. Chen Jianghua from XTBG won prize of best presentation. The second and third prizes went to Prof. Liu Fen of Lushan Botanical Garden and Prof. Zeng Songjun of South China Botanical Garden (SCBG). 

Ms. Wen Xiangying, executive director of Botanical Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) China, was also present at the work meeting.
