January 1st marks the 65th founding anniversary of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG). A series of commemorative activities were held on the New Year’s Day, to better comb the history and look forward to the future.

XTBG held national flag raising ceremony, commemorating the founder Prof. Cai Xitao, tree planting by former director Chen Jin, art and cultural exhibition named "The lyric lives of XTBG", opening of the Lauraceae Garden, symposium, the first botanical and artistic festival, celebration party, exhibition of colored leaves and flowers, Bougainvillea show, etc., to celebrate its 65th birthday.

"Generations of XTBG have remained true to their original intention. We have been breaking through difficulties and starting businesses with great efforts to explore tropical rainforest science, collect tropical plants and carry out popular science education and tourism in this unique environment of tropical frontiers in China. We firmly believe in patriotism, and will continue to write the brilliant music of the tropical plant kingdom, said Prof. Yang Yongping, director of XTBG.

Former directors reviewed development history and wished a splendid future of XTBG. Prof. Chen Jin, who has served as director from 2005-2021, planted a Trevia nudiflora tree.

On the occasion of the 65th birthday, the Lauraceae Garden formally opened to the public. It is also the 39th living collection in XTBG.

The celebration is a multi-perspective display of the gardens development. It encourages XTBG people to inherit Cai Xi-tao's scientist spirit of "rooting in the frontier and dedicating themselves to science", not forgetting their original intention, forging ahead, and contributing to turning XTBG into a national botanical garden.
