Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment has recently announced the second batch of the national stations of comprehensive monitoring of ecological quality. The Ailao Mountain Forest Ecosystem Research Station and Yuanjiang Dry-Hot Valley Ecological Station of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) are two of the 116 stations.
Through local applications, material review, expert evaluation, on-site verification, and special deliberation, 116 comprehensive stations were finally included in the national ecological quality monitoring network this year. Among them, 60 were led by the ecological environment departments, 32 by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 24 by other units, covering 7 major ecosystem types including forests, grasslands, wetlands, deserts, cities, farmlands, and oceans. Of these, 87 are located in key ecological protection areas and important ecological spaces.
The comprehensive station is an important part of the national ecological quality monitoring network, playing a "control" role in the national supervision, monitoring and evaluation of ecological quality. Its main tasks are "plot monitoring, data accumulation; integration of heaven and earth, ground verification; problem discovery, regulatory service; specialized research, talent cultivation."
The Xishuangbanna Tropical Rainforest Ecosystem Station was list in the first batch. Up to now, all the three field stations affiliated to XTBG have been included in the national ecological quality monitoring network.
By taking this inclusion as an opportunity, all XTBGfield stations will strengthen the capacity building, system construction and talent team building of the comprehensive station, carry out in-depth ecological quality supervision and monitoring, support and serve ecological protection and restoration regulation, continuously improve the diversity, stability and sustainability of ecosystems, and contribute to the construction of a beautiful China.
