Prof.Mark van Kleunen from University of Konstanz paid a visit to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on invitation on March 6. The visit was accompanied by Prof. Zhang Zhijie from Peking University.

Prof. Zheng Yulong and his team of Invasion Ecologyand Utilization Technology research group had academic exchange with the visitors. They had in-depth discussions on cutting-edge issues such as the adaptive mechanisms of invasive plants under global change and potential future collaborations.

Prof.Mark van Kleunen visited the biochar preparation platform, Japanese knotweed germplasm nursery and homogeneous plantation, and other research facilities like the long-term water control research platform, and resilience platform, to learn in detail about the application achievements in the direction of adapting and responding mechanisms of different plant groups under global change.

Prof.Mark van Kleunen and Prof. Zhang Jie made presentations at XTBG  Seminar. Van Kleunen spoke on the topic "Can plants count? The effects of multiple concurrent global change factors", introducing his research team's recent series of studies around the mechanism of plant responses to the synergistic effects of multiple global change environmental factors.

Zhang Zhijie talked about "Predicting the challenges and opportunities of species coexistence", introducing his research system verifying a new predictive model for species coexistence.

The visit has laid a solid foundation for deepening cooperation in biological invasion research. The two parties may promote cooperation in data sharing platform construction and joint training of young scholars.
