The Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Center (SEABRI) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) successfully concluded its semi-annual resident and field expedition mission in Myanmar from June 3 to July 4, 2025. The mission involved its management and core research teams.

In collaboration with Myanmar’s Forest Department, Forest Research Institute, and Nature and Wildlife Conservation Division, the researchers conducted field survey across diverse ecological zones within the Ngalaik, Paung Laung, and Chaung Ma Gyi areas near Nay Pyi Taw, as well as Hlawga National Park near Yangon.

The researchers deployed over 130 infrared cameras,  establishing a preliminary wildlife monitoring network for the biodiverse yet understudied central dry zones of Myanmar.

The researchers conducted surveys of representative vegetation types within the target areas. They collected more than 500 plant specimens. They also successfully completed and obtained permits for the export documentation of specimens collected during prior field campaigns.

Furthermore, the team completed essential repair work on laboratories and offices damaged by a recent earthquake, restoring vital research infrastructure.
