Prof. Dominic Lawrence Charlesworth Fry, Chair of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) Board of Trustees, headed up a 4-person delegation to Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) from September 15-18. The delegation included Prof. Simon Stephen Milne, director of RBGE; and Prof. Pete M. Hollingsworth, deputy director and its director of science. The visit aimed to enhance academic collaboration and promote mutual development in botanical research and conservation.
On September 16, the two institutions had a meeting. After learning about their respective development priorities and key research projects, the two sides had in-depth discussion. They will make joint efforts in plant biodiversity research and ecological conservation, explore pathways for talent development and technical exchange through horticultural training programs. They also discussed long-term cooperation framework.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Quan Ruichang, deputy director of XTBG, along with heads and representatives from relevant scientific departments.
During their stay, the RBGE delegation conducted field visits to several key facilities and zones within XTBG, including the Tropical Rainforest Ethnic Culture Museum, the Environmental Education Center, the living collections, and the demonstration area of rubber-tea agroforestry, and nursery facilities.
