During his pursuit for Ph.D degree in Wageningen University, the Netherlands, Dr. Cai Zhiquan of XTBG has done some research, under the guidance of his supervisors, on Banhinia and trees. The research result has been published in Annals of Botany 100 (4):831-838, 2007.

In “Seedling growth strategies in Bauhinia species: comparing lianas and trees”, three liana and two tree species are compared. It is concluded that faster growth of light demanding lianas is based on morphological parameters and cannot be attributed to higher photosynthetic rates at the leaf level.
