Yunnan is a biogegraphical transition zone from tropical Asia to subtropical-temperate east Asia, and also an intersection zone of China-Japanese flora and China-Himalayan flora. Yunnan, known as the "Plant Kingdom" with over half of China's plant species, boasts almost all major vegetation types in Eurasia.

Prof. Zhu Hua from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) has been engaging in the surveys and systematic research of vegetation in Yunnan for about 30 years. He made clear reads to vegetation types of Yunnan province in his new book Vegetation of Yunnan: Ecological and Biogeographical Reads, published by Yunnan Science & Technology Press in March.

The book introduces the main vegetation types in Yunnan from zonal tropical lowland and lower mountains, to subtropical and warm temperate-cold temperate mountains, and zonal dry hot, dry warm valleys, as well as arranged basically from south to north, from low altitude to high altitude according to the horizontal and vertical zonal vegetation sequences.
It concisely clarified the species composition, physiognomy, floristic characteristics, biogeography of the main vegetation types in Yunnan. Combining the geological history of Yunnan, the formation of monsoon climate, the discovery of palaeobotany and other related findings, the origin and evolution of the main vegetation types in Yunnan are also discussed.
The new book is well illustrated and makes clear reads to the vegetation of Yunnan.
