HERBARIUM (HITBC): The herbarium has an accession of 125,000 plant specimens since 1959, most of the specimens are from southern Yunnan, with additional material from other tropical and subtropical areas of China, as well as southeast Asia. Apart from specimen curation, the herbarium also has the responsibility to help and support in the identification of plants for research groups and students. Under the support of CAS, herbarium facilities and information system have been significantly improved.

PLANT GERMPLASM BANK: Established in 1996, it is a member of the national system for the preservation of strategic plant resources. Genetic materials stored including seeds and plant tissues for future purposes. Aside from collection, evaluation and preservation of rare and endangered plant species, staff members will also provide training for students and services as well as materials for research.

RESEARCH STATIONS: To support ecological studies on forest ecosystems, two field research stations have been established in tropical and subtropical areas of Yunnan Province respectively. Both of them are member stations of the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network, later in 2005, become national field research stations.

XISHUANGBANNA STATION TROPICAL RAINFOREST ECOSYSTEM STUDIES (National

Forest Ecosystem Research Station at Xishuangbanna) was established in 1959 as part of XTBG. Apart from regular monitoring equipment and laboratory facilities, other notable facilities include a 70-meter tall observation tower and a 20-hectare permanent forest plot.

AILAOSHAN STATION FOR SUBTROPICAL FOREST ECOSYSTEM RESEARCH STATION

(National Forest Ecosystem Research Station at Ailaoshan) was established in 1981,and geographically located at 24o 32 ' N, 101 o 01 ' E, with an elevation of 2450 meters above sea level. A 30-meter tall observation tower was set up in the evergreen broadleaved forests. Although it is about 200 kilometers away from XTBG headquarters or from the Kunming Division, it attracts over 200 scientists to visit and undertake research activities.

BIOGEOCHEMISTRY LABORATORY: It is a certified laboratory for the quality of chemical analysis on plant materials, soils, food, and fertilizers. With its advanced equipment and facilities, it provides analytical services the researcher centers and field stations, and also open to other institutions.

GIS LABORTORY: Provision and analysis of spatial information to researchers.

LIBRARIES: In XTBG headquarters and its Kunming Division, the libraries possess a total number of 53,000 books in stock and 283 scientific journals for scientists and well managed through electronic retrieval system over the Internet. The total asset for books amounted to 5.6 million Yuan RMB. In additional to the stocked books and journals, XTBG invests over 700,000 Yuan RMB for scientific information over the Internet, including Internet Access, use of digital Journal Databases.
