As an important supporting unit to the Southwest Base for Biodiversity Conservation and Biological Resource Development under the Knowledge Innovation Scheme of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the major tasks of the information center in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) include administration of web-based communication networks, provision of office automation and database systems as well as library services, etc. Presently, this center has a total stock of about 140 thousand copies of books and journals in the library, two sets of local area networks connected to the internet, and more than 10 web-based database systems servicing conference management, scientific journal management, research program management, public science education, horticultural plant information management, herbarium management, library automation system, etc.
