In a recent issue of Journal of Systematics & Evolution, Chinese botanists reported a new family, Wightiaceae, which is the 26th family recognized in Lamiales.

Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) witnessed on Tuesday a once-in-a-decade event as the giant corpse flower bloomed. The unique Amorphophallus titanum, commonly known as titan arum or the corpse flower, opened its inflorescence quickly, leaving visitors with jaws dropped, and perhaps, nostrils closed.

During field surveys in montane areas of Jingdong, southern Yunnan, China, researchers from Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) and Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden found a new orchid species. After consulting literature and comparing morphological characters, they name it as Bulbophyllum jingdongense.

During their fieldwork for checking bamboos cultivated in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), researchers discovered another new species of woody bamboos endemic to southern Yunnan, China. The researchers compared the samples with type specimens of similar species deposited in herbaria, analyzed images of type specimens, and consulted relevant literatures on Paleotropical bamboos. They named the new species as Dendrocalamus jinghongensis P.Y.Wang, Y.X.Zhang & D.Z.Li, sp. nov. and published it in Phytotaxa.
