XTBG researchers attend Second SEE-Life International Conference in France
Prof. Fan Zexin, deputy director of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), headed up a delegation to France to attend the Second SEE-Life International Conference from October 18 -24. They also visited the Centre d'Études Biologiques de Chizé(CEBC), jointly established by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of La Rochelle.
The Second SEE-Life International Conference was held in La Rochelle from October 20 to 22. SEE-Life is a CNRS-led long-term ecological and evolutionary monitoring program aimed at deepening understanding of ecological and evolutionary processes and their responses to environmental change through long-term continuous observation. This year’s conference focused on long-term ecological monitoring, biodiversity dynamics, global change, and the integration and application of long-term observational data. The participants exchanged research progress and discussed international scientific cooperation.
Fan Zexin and Peng Yanqiong made thematic presentations at the conference. Prof. Fan Zexin introduced the long-term ecological research system, field station layout, research infrastructure, and long-term observational data resources of XTBG.
Taking long-term insect monitoring in the Khao Chong tropical rainforest in Thailand as a case study, Prof. Peng Yanqiong introduced research on the dynamics of tropical forest insect communities and changes in diversity, and explained the scientific value of long-term continuous observation in revealing patterns of tropical biodiversity change.
Yang Xiaodong, Peng Yanqiong, and Zhang Yongjiang made poster presentations on the long-term observation platform of the Ailao Mountains forest ecosystem, the 20-year dynamics of a fig–fig wasp community, and a multidimensional biodiversity monitoring network along the 101°E transect in Southeast Asian tropical forests, respectively.
XTBG researchers visited CEBC and its relevant research facilities and observation platforms, and learned about the center’s long-term research in wildlife ecology, population dynamics, and global change ecology.
They also discussed cooperation with French colleagues in long-term ecological monitoring, research platform development, and joint research.
