Insects of Xishuangbanna: Observation Guide, has been recently published by Chongqing University Press. It documents 949 insect species and 134 species of other invertebrates, including spiders and snails, offering a systematic presentation of the area's common and representative species.

The book is mainly compiled by Ma Zehao of Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), which is a result of his 4-year field survey of insect diversity in the region.

All species photographs in the book are taken from a consistent angle, with key diagnostic features, so as to facilitate rapid identification and comparison with similar species. It also provides popular science introductions for some key species and major taxonomic groups.

It is expected to serve as an identification tool for insect enthusiasts and ecological photographers, and provide a foundational reference for insect biodiversity study, said a researcher of XTBG.
