“Art meets science: the sixth exhibition of Chinese paintings of tropical rainforest” was opened at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on September 30. The exhibition features 70 fine Chinese paintings by artists from across China.
Prof. Xing Yaowu, director of XTBG, delivered an opening speech.
The exhibition focuses on tropical rainforest ecology and biodiversity and is guided by the concept of cross-disciplinary integration between art and science. Using brush and ink as its medium, it explores the natural beauty and ecological charm of the rainforest.
The works are both artistically and ecologically significant. While presenting traditional Chinese painting aesthetics, the works vividly showcase the ecological features of the tropical rainforest, guiding the public to appreciate nature’s wonders, explore its scientific significance, and further build consensus on biodiversity conservation.
Launched in 2016, this exhibition is held every two years. It integrates botanical science popularization, natural aesthetics communication, and ethnic ecological culture inheritance. Evolving from an initial display of traditional flower-and-bird paintings, it has now become a comprehensive platform covering natural history painting, ecological photography, site-specific art, natural landscape, and other categories.
The exhibition will run until April 20, 2027. Come to the art gallery at the Environmental Education Center of XTBG to enjoy the beauty of the rainforest through brush and ink, appreciate the importance of ecology through scientific interpretation!
