Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) held an exhibition of rare and endangered tropical plants to greet the 75th birthday of China. The theme of the exhibition is “Protecting national treasures -- China’s rare and endangered tropical plants”. It showcases various tropical rare and endangered plants to the public through a combination of living plants, small pieces, and science popularization plates, aiming to increase public awareness of plant conservation.

A total of 112 rare and endangered tropical plants, belonging to 36 families, are on display. Among them, 82 species are nationally protected (18 at the national level I, 64 at the national level II), 43 are species with extremely small populations, 34 are threatened species recorded in China's Biodiversity Red List, and 55 are threatened species assessed by the IUCN Red List. Different types of plants originating from different regions and habitats are on display, including ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms. They represent various survival strategies of plants.

The living plants on display include such important species as Parashorea chinensis, Dipterocarpus retusus, Cibotium barometz, Dracaena draco, Tigridiopalma magnifica, Angiopteris evecta, Cycas multipinnata, etc.

XTBG achievements in protection of rare and endangered plants are also on exhibition through science popularization plates.

This exhibition integrates garden ornaments and a series of science popularization into the display area, allowing visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the plant's growth environment, current protection status, and conservation measures.

“The conservation of rare and endangered plants is an important task of XTBG. We hope the public will have a better understanding on rare and endangered plants and beware of biodiversity conservation after seeing this exhibition,” said a gardener.

The exhibition lasts from October 1 to 31, at the Commemorative Plant Garden of XTBG.
