The 3rd symposium on China plant lipids was held at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) on October 11-13. The meeting was organized by National Engineering Research Center for Rapeseed. Its theme is “Application of lipid metabolism in plant development and utilization”, with participation of over 50 experts and scholars from domestic universities and research institutions.

Prof. Yang Yongping, director of XTBG, made a brief introduction to achievements in plant oils of the garden. Prof. Guo Liang from the NNational Engineering Research Center for Rapeseed introduced the origin and development history of the symposium and encouraged participants to promote the research and development of plant lipid science.

22 participants presented their latest research progress and achievements, covering cutting-edge directions such as lipid metabolism in oil crop production, special oil development, plant stress response, and high-oil germplasm innovation. All participants had an in-depth exchange and discussion on the application of lipid metabolism in plant development and utilization, proposing new ideas and strategies for future plant oil development and utilization.

Prof. Lu Chaofu from Montana State University of USA said that the symposium provided a highly efficient academic exchange platform for researchers in the field of plant lipid metabolism in China, and offered a rare opportunity for young researchers to learn and practice.
